Collects blood specimens from patients of all ages, properly identifying the patient, promptly drawing and correctly labeling the specimens using established procedural guidelines. Performs central processing duties according to established protocol. Performs computer printout of lab results and the distribution of results to the patient's charts. Receives telephone calls and routes them to appropriate area and greets patients when lab clerk is unavailable. Formal phlebotomy training preferred. High school graduate. 1 year phlebotomy work experience preferred. Certification though ASCP, ASPT, NCA or equivalent agency preferred. Must have basic knowledge of all phlebotomy skills, techniques and devices to include all ages. Follows all safety rules and techniques to prevent needle stick injuries. Periodic use of personal vehicle may be necessary for hospital related business/errands. |
